How one Houston-area doctor is revolutionizing menopause care

HOUSTON – Ladies, if you’re in your mid-30s or older, and you’re noticing what seems to be weird symptoms, it could be perimenopause.

A local doctor is gaining international fanbase for her nutrition-based plan to fight symptoms, and it all started with her own journey to lose weight in her 40s.

Dr. Mary Claire Haver, a board-certified OB/GYN, and culinary medicine expert is helping women as they approach perimenopause and menopause with her popular online nutrition program, “The Galveston Diet.”

The program educates women about the impact their food choices and possible mineral deficiencies have on symptoms such as fatigue, weight gain, anxiety, and depression.

When Dr. Haver’s go-to method of calorie restriction and exercise wasn’t working, she turned to researchers at her hospital for answers. They provided studies that proved women in middle age were having a change in body composition, and the quality of food they were eating was negatively impacting hormones that control where and how women stored fat.

Dr. Haver said she went down the rabbit hole of research and created “The Galveston Diet,” a lifestyle plan that includes intermittent fasting, eating anti-inflammatory foods, and refocusing to limit simple carbohydrates and boost healthy fats, proteins, and quality carbs.

With two million followers on social media, Dr. Haver’s appeal goes beyond her Friendswood wellness clinic. She’s just finished her first book set for release in January. For more information on the plan, her book, and her blog, click here.
