Pidove, the Tiny Pigeon Pokémon, is coming to Pokémon GO Spotlight Hour at the very end of the month, increasing its spawn rate and giving players a great opportunity to catch it as shiny. Pidove’s shiny form is quite similar to its main form, with its black-hued wings and beak tinted to a vibrant blue instead. Its final form, Unfezant, also has a major difference between male and female forms. As the fifth and final Spotlight Hour Pokémon in Pokémon GO, Pidove will be available on Tuesday, August 30th, from 6-7 PM local time.
Pidove will be a relatively easy capture for most players, so players should be sure to stock up on Poké Balls and Pinap Berries to increase how many are caught, and how many candies they receive. For higher-CP Pidoves that are intended for competitive use or locking in a shiny capture, aim to use Razz Berries to increase the odds of a successful capture. Maximizing how many Pidoves are caught in this hour is key to maximizing the Spotlight’s unique buff. For players low on Poké Balls, the new Daily Adventure Incense feature in Pokémon GO can increase supplies for players with under 30 Poké Balls total.
The unique buff that will be available for this Spotlight Hour is 2x Evolution XP. Pairing this with a Pokémon like Pidove, with a relatively low candy requirement for evolution (12) gives players a great opportunity to level up quickly. Aim to catch as many Pidoves as possible during this time, then evolve them into Tranquill and Unfezant to gain the bonus XP. As with all buffs during Spotlight Hours, 2x Evolution XP will be granted to all Pokémon, not just Pidove.
Pidove & Unfezant Competitive Guide in Pokémon GO
Pidove is a Normal- and Flying-type Pokémon, retaining its type when evolving into Tranquill with 12 candies, and Unfezant with 50. Unfezant will take super-effective damage from Ice-, Rock-, and Electric-type moves in Pokémon GO. It resists Bug- and Grass-type moves, while greatly resisting Ground- and Ghost-type moves, its mainline immunities. This typing, though common, can still provide some competitive benefits in the Pokémon GO Battle League, especially in lower tiers.
Unfezant relies on its Flying-type moves to be a successful counter to Grass-, Bug-, and Fighting-types. For the best Flying-type offense, opt to use the fast move Air Slash, and the charged move Sky Attack. Unfezant also has access to the Steel-type move Steel Wing as a fast attack, and the Fire-type move Heat Wave as a charged attack. Though Unfezant is not typically a competitive pick, it could be of use in defeating any of the Team Rocket Bosses in Pokémon GO during the month of August.
